MFAB on the Scene: Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic

When the Royal Ontario Museum announced that the Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic was going to be coming Toronto, Canada (my hometown) my bouncing Tigger moves jumped with excitement that my pal Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends were traveling from the Hundred Acre Woods to visit my city! And when the Royal Ontario Museum invited me to the reopening I could not be more super excited!

My love of Winnie-the-Pooh started when my grandmother read to me. My parents told me stories that whenever my grandmother was visiting I insisted that she tuck me into bed with a story from Winnie-the-Pooh . His adventures would always put a smile on my face before falling asleep!!!

Fast forward…years later, Winnie-the-Pooh is still one of my favourite characters. So when I hears that the Royal Ontario Museum was going to be the only Canadian stop for the Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic my countdown began. I simply couldn’t wait to learn more about his history — where he came from, his childhood, how he grew up, how he became the lovable teddy bear and learn more about his friends and his home at Hundred Acre Woods.

When the Royal Ontario Museum announced that the Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic would be visiting the museum nobody could have predicted that 2020 would turn the world upside down and change our lives in so many ways. This is one of the first exhibits for the ROM in our new COVID world which has changed the way we visit and explore museums or other tourist destinations. The new reality and vocaliabty that we are getting adapted to like using the phrases“Flattening the Curve” or “Social Distancing” and or “Mandatory Mask must be worn” these phrases have changed the way we interacted with people and have changed the way business run to keep us healthy and safe which is the most important during these times.

With that being said…the Royal Ontario Museum had to close down just before the exhibit was to launch. It took several months before Toronto moved into stage 3 re-opening before the museum was able to reopen. Under new safety protocols, on Tuesday September 1st, 2020 the Royal Ontario Museum as it celebrated the long-awaited reopening of Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic.

My bouncing Tigger moves jumped up and down with excitement hearing about the reopening and I was super excited discover and learn more about my pal Winnie-the-Pooh and his magical world and his friends. The Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic is a timeless with universal appeal of one of the most adored fictional characters of all time – Winnie-the-Pooh –– in this immersive and playful exhibition.
